brawlers-guide-to-season-6-hNbNOxKr7z

Season 6 is in full swing, and for the first time, we want to give you a more detailed look into the most carefree and explosive part of our game – the brawls. We’ll talk about the rules of these weekend activities, and give you some handy tips on approaching each of them. Let’s get to it!

Table of contents

GENERAL INFO

If you're new here, Brawls are fun mini-events with unusual game rules that take place on the weekends.

You should keep in mind, that brawls do not affect your account stats, so you can enjoy the care-free fun without having to worry about maintaining a high K/D ratio and so on.

Another notable feature of all brawls - contracts. You sign them when the brawl’s active, you complete the challenges listed in the contract, you get the rewards that include Battle Coins, Elite Consumables and a unique Insignia for every brawl. Plain and simple.

It’s not mandatory, of course, it’s just a great way to make a profit while having fun - contract rewards are always worth more than the price of a contract. Also, don’t forget that you can get a Season Pass that includes all brawl contracts! Learn more about Season Pass in our handy guide.

ALL FOR ONE

In this brawl, your whole team has only 25 lives for the duration of a match. Your objective is to save as many lives as you can while depleting your opponents’ supply of lives.

BRAWL RULES

  • Each team has 25 lives in total
  • Each time a player is eliminated, their team loses one life
  • The team with more lives at the end wins
  • Everyone plays with their own weapons and equipment

This mode of play is very much based on your ability to coordinate and play together as a team. Here are a few things you should remember before going into battle.

TIPS

  • Try to stay close to your teammates at all times and never wander off alone. Every time you lose sight of your mates, you’re in danger of being picked off and losing a life for the team
  • Create ambushes and don’t rush the enemy even if you feel the power pulsing through you. Being careful is more important than going commando-style
  • Once you eliminate someone, retreat a little and make sure everyone’s healed up

Brawl dates: September 20-22

HEAL ‘N’ RUN

This one’s all about timing and positioning. You regenerate health when not taking damage, so running around and healing yourself is a valid tactic. Just make sure not to step on someone’s grenade or stop in the enemy’s crosshair!

BRAWL RULES

  • Your HP regenerates when you’re not taking damage for some time
  • Games happen in Bounty Hunt mode, where you score points by picking up orbs from eliminated enemies
  • If you get eliminated, you drop half of your collected orbs for other players to pick up
  • You can pick up orbs from enemies, as well as from teammates
  • Health starts regenerating when a player has been out of the battle for 2 consecutive seconds
  • Health regenerates at a rate of 20% from base HP level every 2 seconds until fully restored

The fact that eliminations aren’t the main source of points in this mode, makes it a little tricky. Your instincts may tell you sometimes to chase low-health enemies and get those eliminations, but that’s not always the right call.

TIPS

  • Once you get 10 orbs, you become visible through obstacles for all players across the whole map. Hiding is no longer an option
  • Make sure to protect your orb-bearing teammates, because they’re the prime target for your opponents and are easy to spot
  • Your health regenerates over time, so when you’re hurt – run to safety. This will give you some time to breathe, get your HP back and think about your next move

Brawl dates: September 27-29

ARMS RACE

This classic brawl is a favorite among many gunslingers: it’s tense, fun, fast, and as exciting as they get! Prove your true skills by using different weapon types and methodically eliminating your enemies.

BRAWL RULES

  • Free For All game mode
  • The first one to score 21 eliminations wins
  • Everyone starts with Bastion
  • Once you score 2 eliminations with it, you get the next gun
  • There’s a total of 11 guns in the brawl, and eliminating opponents will require more and more skill as you advance
  • You get Brawl Medkits every time you spawn, you don’t get any offensive consumables

Gun order:

  • Starting gun – BASTION
  • 2 eliminations – ORION
  • 4 eliminations – SUNBURST
  • 6 eliminations – REAPER
  • 8 eliminations – HERO
  • 10 eliminations – TRAITOR
  • 12 eliminations – SCATTERSHOT
  • 14 eliminations – BRAWLER
  • 16 eliminations – HURRICANE
  • 18 eliminations – THANATOS
  • 20 eliminations – LEGEND

This brawl is dynamic, to say the least! You don’t have a team to play around, you don’t even have the same weapons to fight with. So here’s what we think is the best way to handle the Arms Race.

TIPS

  • Get ready to adapt on the fly: your weapons will change, and so should your tactics. Fighting with a machine gun and with a sniper rifle are two completely different things
  • Know your map well! That way, you can find the safest spots and make sneaky ambushes for the enemies
  • When you see several people fighting, it’s not always polite to interrupt. More often than not, you can wait for a winner to emerge and finish him off. Of course, if you’re sure you can finish off both gunslingers, you should go for it!

Brawl dates: October 4-6

BIG GUNS

A truly iconic Guns of Boom pass time, the Big Guns brawl has everything you love: dynamic gameplay, a unique weapon, and as much BOOM as you can handle! The rules are pretty simple: you get a devastating gun that spits grenades whenever you score 2 eliminations in a row.

BRAWL RULES

  • Machine guns only
  • You start off with one of the four brawl machine guns: Matador, Annihilator, Hero or Jack Frost
  • You can run with machine guns
  • For every 2 eliminations, you get the Vulcan grenade launcher!
  • Everyone has 3000 health and armor

This brawl features a unique weapon, which you can’t encounter anywhere else in the game, so most of the tips concern it – the Vulcan grenade launcher.

TIPS

  • Once you get the Vulcan, don’t be in a hurry to fire it off in all directions – the ammo’s limited. Make every shot count by attacking close-packed groups of enemies
  • You may not be the only one with the Vulcan. Other players might have the grenade launcher as well, so don’t go into a berserk mode when you get it
  • Machine guns can fire at pretty long ranges. Keep your distance at all times, and you’ll be able to eliminate enemies with the Vulcan with no hassle
  • Want to survive better than everyone else? Use the Shell vest that reduces incoming damage from the Vulcan’s grenades! Learn more about vests here

Brawl dates: October 11-13

POWER PLAY

Yet another brawl with very flexible gameplay - the tide of battle can change at any moment! Collect power-ups that make you more efficient, and score points by eliminating the opponents.

BRAWL RULES

  • There are certain places on the map where power-ups spawn
  • There are three types of power-ups: speed, defense, and damage
  • Power-ups effects last for a limited period of time
  • You can collect several power-ups in a row and stack their effects
  • The central point of the map spawns a random power-up, so if you saw a Double Damage bonus appear there once, it doesn’t mean you’ll see it next time
Speed, Double Damage and Defense power-ups
Speed, Double Damage and Defense power-ups.

POWER-UPS

  • Speed: lasts 8 seconds and increases movement speed by 20%
  • Double Damage: lasts 16 seconds and doubles your output damage
  • Defense: lasts 16 seconds, reduces incoming damage by 50% and recovers 5% of your armor every 0,5 seconds

Power-ups add a lot of tension to the gameplay and a lot of timing-related tactics. Here’s what you should keep in mind when going into Power Play.

TIPS

  • The Double Damage bonus is everyone’s favorite, so you can expect heated fights around it, which can be a source of eliminations, wink-wink
  • It’s common for gunslingers with Double Damage to go rushing, trying to get up close to the opponents, however, your damage is doubled on all weapons including sniper rifles – think about it
  • The Defense power-up does not protect against knives – if you’re a skilled melee fighter, you can deal some serious damage even to a gunslinger with extra protection
  • If you pick up the same power-up several times, its effect will be prolonged – so moving smart can allow you to maintain the desired state for a while

Brawl dates: October 18-20

SPEC OPS

At the start of Season 6, we announced a Mystery Brawl. Long story short, we created the Spec Ops Brawl! There’s already a big guide with all the details and specs, so check it out if you’re hungry for info.

Brawl Rules

  • Battles happen in Team Deathmatch mode on three classic maps
  • Each player is assigned one of the three possible roles: Sniper, Assault, or Demoman
  • Players can’t change their role during a match
  • Each role offers a unique set of weapons and gear
  • Everyone has increased speed and decreased Health/Armor

Brawl Tips

  • You have no way of choosing the role you’ll play, so prepare to train in all possible loadouts
  • Study the gear you have to make the best choices in battle. For instance, the Assault can define front lines with carefully-placed flashbangs, and the Demoman can wipe out clustered groups of enemies with G-Launcher shots
  • Keep practicing. The more you play through these roles again and again, the more you’ll be comfortable with their loadouts. The brawl doesn’t affect stats, so there’s no harm in playing multiple matches even if you don’t come out on top every time.
  • Play around your team. This applies to all matches in Guns of Boom, but more so to Pro Play and the Spec Ops Brawl. Your strength in these modes is not necessarily in personal skill but in the ability to correctly time your damage output and positioning.

Brawl dates: October 25-27
